The Stew Invites You

Be renewed by the spirit of your mind – Eph 4:23

Let’s just talk about it, okay?  The Stew is the name of Covina United Methodist Church’s open ended group where participants do just that, talk about a recent or on going issue of concern to them. Anything, be it socials, moral, spiritual on a local, national or global level. Yes, even those polarizing issues that most people and churches tend to avoid. No lecture, not Bible study driven, and not fellowship alone.

We all know that thoughtful dialogue can tax our faith, but herein is the reward. Our church family and welcome friends have a wonderful diversity for The Stew’s ingredients: all age groups, cultural backgrounds, life experiences, knowledge and skills, and especially diversity I thought stemming from your unique point of view.

The format allows everyone to express his or her own perspective without criticism or direct challenge. We usually begin with “leftovers,” new thoughts, information or a reflection since the previous meeting. We then have either a focus topic or open forum for the balance of the evening. It’s easy and fun. Discussions are at times spirited but always respectful. “I see it differently: here’s why.” This stew is not bland or boring!

Do we solve or justify all that troubles us? Of course not. But through our shared awareness and knowledge, we are more likely to cope and grow spiritually by being disciples for one another and leave feeling energized.

Thank you; we’re anxious to answer any questions and include any issue or topic of concern to you. We usually meet every Thursday at 7:00 p.m., in the church office conference room and finish with a dessert a bit after 8:00 p.m.  Please contact the church or Ray Wilson at (626)339-6419 or email raywilson@verizon.net

So, jump in the kettle; new ingredients make The Stew taste all the better.
